Ireland; Thousands of people were forced from their homes across Ireland following the 2009 storms after torrential rain caused severe flooding. The UK Government’s climate advisers have warned that the country is vulnerable to climate change impacts, such as flooding, heat waves and droughts, as the potential risks are not being considered while making decisions in areas like planning and water supplies.
The Committee on Climate Change report stated that the country was reaching the limit in coping with problems like floods. According to the climate advisers, more and more urban sites are being pave over in spite of the rising risk of flooding.
As per the Adopted East Midlands Regional Plans policy 35, the strategies of relevant public bodies must take account of the potential climate change impacts like flooding and land drainage, by demanding sustainable drainage in all new developments.
